John Wright, 87, of Ruleville, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, in Memphis.
John was born in Linn on July 4, 1935. He grew up in the Roundaway community and graduated from Linn Consolidated School in 1953. Afterward, he attended Sunflower Junior College and Mississippi State College, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management in 1957. He briefly worked in Natchez, then moved to Baton Rouge, where he owned and operated a welding business until 1978. He then farmed in the Mississippi Delta until his retirement in 2005. He and his wife, Rosemary, were also in the antique business in the Delta for more than 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edna Harpole Wright; brothers, Carvelle, Paul and Billy Joe Wright; and sisters, Sybel Catlett, Marjorie Johnson, Bettye Jane Cooper and Ruth Short Easom.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Gatewood Golden Wright; three sons, John Clifford, Joseph Mark and Timothy Christopher; one daughter, Christina L. Garza (Danny); one stepson, Robert Owen Golden (Sarah); two stepdaughters, Leigh Ann Reynolds (Bret) and Lisa Melek (Bekir); one grandson, Jeffery Garza (Stephanie); one granddaughter, Rebekah Garza; two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six nephews; and five nieces.
Visitation was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, with the funeral service beginning at 12 noon. Interment followed at Linn Methodist Cemetery.
