Joyce Matthews McGregor of Helena, Ark., and formerly of Indianola, sadly passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughters on Sept. 15, 2023, at the age of 71.
Joyce was born in Ruleville on March 19, 1952, to John and Louise Matthews. She was the youngest of four girls. Joyce had several secretarial jobs over the years, one of which was at Delta Pride and most recently at Helena Bank; but more than anything, she was a dedicated homemaker who took pride in taking care of her family. She was a very loving and devoted mother. Joyce was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Indianola. Even in the face of life’s challenges, she never let adversity weigh her down. Joyce’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of her daughters and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Mark Matthews.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jimmy McGregor of Helena, Ark.; two daughters, Donna Marie Johnson (Jay) of Benton, Ark. and Tanya Peige Elliott (Chris) of Collierville, Tenn.; stepson, Chad McGregor of New Orleans; brother, Alan Matthews of Ruleville; three sisters, Betty May Connell of Ruleville, Anna Sue Schmaltz (Bob) of Dresden, Tenn., and Bertha Almeda Wilson of Jackson; three grandchildren, Mary Jordyn Mitchell of Dallas, Texas, and Landon Lex Elliott and Luke Christopher Elliott, both of Collierville, Tenn.; and one step-granddaughter, Kelsey Michelle Johnson of Seattle, Wash.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. today at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jimmy Pender officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Heart Association, The Rheumatoid Arthritis Association, or Samaritan’s Purse.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Kathy, her hospice nurse, and her special sitter, Ceola Rachel, for their excellent care of Joyce.
