Juanita Carter Bussey, 92, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
Juanita was born in Greenwood to James A. and Alva Mullen Carter. She grew up in Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood High School. Juanita worked as a bookkeeper for the Leflore County school system and G.M.A.C., and later owned and operated Bussey’s Western Store until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school. She enjoyed cooking and reading about current events. Juanita especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and visiting with other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard Miles Bussey.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Upchurch of Greenwood and Kim Smith (Dale) of Indianola; a son, Mike Bussey (Debbie) of Greenwood; seven grandchildren, Dawne Upchurch Holmes (Keith), Melanie Wilkerson (Russ), Michael Bussey Jr. (Kristi), Lauren Bussey Cogswell (Jesse), Kristina Christian (Justin), Ty Smith and Jacob Smith; 11 great-grandchildren, Cody Holmes, Emily Holmes, Austin Winter (Anna Lauren), Kaitlyn Bussey, Mary Carter Bussey, Michael Bussey III, Miles Cogswell, Shepherd Cogswell, Ford Cogswell, Olivia Christian and Sawyer Christian; and one great-great-grandchild, Hayes Bussey.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, Greenwood, with the Rev. Ed McDaniel officiating.
Pallbearers will be Wally Montgomery, Billy Montgomery, Keith Holmes, Cody Holmes, Justin Christian and Michael Bussey III. Honorary pallbearers are Ty Smith, Jacob Smith, Michael Bussey Jr. and Dr. Kenneth Hines.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, First Baptist Church of Greenwood, or the charity of donor’s choice.
