Funeral Services for Martha Agnes Oakes Mooney were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Moorhead Baptist Church. Burial followed at Moorhead Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Indianola.
She died Friday, Feb. 2, 2004, at her home in Greenville.
Martha was born Sept. 14, 1929, the second daughter of Luther Bryan and Daisy Cook Oakes of Moorhead. She married W. D. Mooney on March 14, 1946.
W. D. preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1994. Martha was also preceded in death by: her sisters, Juanita Whatley, Maggie Louise Oakes and Maxine Oakes; her brothers, James A. Oakes and Luther Bryan Oakes Jr.; as well as her granddaughter, Rachel Agnes Hankins.
Martha was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by many.
Survivors include: three daughters, Ann Hitchcock of Greenville, Nan Johnson of Leland, and Jewel Hankins (Al) of Grenada; one sister, Geneva Oakes Bragg of Panama City Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Donald Wayne Oakes (Sherry) of Indianola and James Wayne Oakes of Grand Bay, Ala.; and six grandchildren, Wendy Way Koenigsberger, Dawn Way Bryant (Chad), Lyn Johnson Terrell (Mitch) Jay Johnson (Kassie), Mandy Hankins McCormick and Amber Hankins. Martha was blessed to have a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren to call her Mamaw.
A visitation was held from 1-2 p.m. before the services on Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to Moorhead Baptist Church, Moorhead Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, or a charity of the donor's choice.
