Family graveside services for Rene Williams Baird, 99, of Inverness, will be held at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Inverness. A visitation for friends and family was held Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Episcopal Church in Inverness. Mrs. Baird died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 following a brief illness. Arrangements were under the direction of Burton Funeral Home, Indianola.
Rene was born Oct. 22, 1918 in Memphis to Crawford Fortson and Irene Procter Williams and moved to Greenville at age 13. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1936. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She married George Evans Baird, Jr. on June 6, 1942, moved to Inverness and began a family that grew to six children.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, George (“Bubby”) Baird Jr.; her parents, Crawford and Irene Williams of Greenville; her brothers, William Procter Williams of Greenville and Crawford Fortson Williams of Wilmington, N. C.; her sister, Bettyanne Weilenman of Stoneville; and a granddaughter, Morgan Davis Reese Reynolds of Jasper, Ala.
She is survived by six children, George Evans Baird III (Marsha) of Greenville, William Fortson “Bill” Baird (Margaret) of Greenville, Suzanne Baird Reese (Kerry) of Jasper, Ala., David Procter Baird (Mary Jane) of Indianola, Donald Duncan Baird (Ann) of Springdale, Ark., and James Crawford “Jim” Baird (Cindy) of Inverness; and a sister-in-law, Helen Dubard Williams of Tupelo; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty-six great grandchildren.
