Ruby Lee Slocum Cole, 90, of Water Valley, and formerly of Greenville and Indianola, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley.
Ruby was born April 3, 1933, in Minter City, to Wesley and Nellie Buchanan Slocum. She grew up in Indianola where she attended school. Ruby enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, puzzles, and gardening. She loved life. Ruby worked for Delta & Pine Land in Scott for many years and later worked for Burford Brothers Printing in Greenville. She loved her family. Ruby was a devoted caregiver for her son, who suffered from muscular dystrophy, until his death in 1974, at the age of 19. She was a Baptist by faith.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Russell Cole; her son, Wayne Cole; three sisters; and four brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Billy) Hall of Coffeeville; and grandson, Billy Hall Jr. of Russellville, Kentucky.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. today at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. at Indianola City Cemetery.
