Thomas Spiro “Mike” Thomas, 92, of Indianola, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at South Sunflower County Hospital.
He was born April 19, 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas, to Spiro and Lefkey Kuluris Thomas. Mike was a graduate of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving in World War II. While in the service he received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Honorable Service lapel button World War II, Marksman Badge with Rifle bar, and European – African – Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze service awards with Arrowhead. He was an engineer and retired from American Commercial Barge Line.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley White Thomas; and two brothers.
He is survived by one sister, Christina Thomas Apostaloce of Waco, Texas; three step-children, Chad White and wife Angela of Indianola, Jason White and wife Cayce of Dayton, Tenn., and Tommy White and wife Nicole of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and a very dear friend, Buddy Walden and wife Carol of Indianola.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements.
