Vera Cummings Childress, 92, of Indianola and formerly of Isola, passed away Saturday, Feb 24, 2018 at Indianola Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Vera Kathleen Cummings was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Belzoni, and was the daughter of Lonnie Lee and Mary Louise Cummings.
Vera was married to George Warren Childress and together they had five children. She was a homemaker and a wonderful cook who devoted her life to her family. She was a very protective and loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was known as the “Queen of Comebacks”.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; daughter, Rene Donald; and grandson, Michael Keith Tharp.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Michael W. Childress and wife Betty Lu of Belzoni, Candace R. Childress of Fairview, Tenn., George K. Childress and wife Gena of Fairview, Tenn. and Suzette Farr and husband Michael of Indianola; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Wednesday, Feb. 28th from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Graveside services followed at 12:30 p.m. at Caile Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
