Willie Mae Cook Henry, 88, of Sunflower, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 24, 2017, at North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville.
She was born May 11, 1929 in Moorhead, and was the daughter of Willie and Laura Bingham Cook. Mrs. Henry worked as a buying clerk for Lewis Grocer Company in Indianola for over 23 years before retiring in 1990 due to illness. She was a faithful member of Sunflower Baptist Church and was recently honored for over 40 years of service as the Sunday School secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Henry was an avid bridge player and was a member of the Moorhead Bridge Club. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Mrs. Henry was a wonderful seamstress and cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, James Haulk Henry; two brothers; Joe Lee Cook and Thomas Leroy Cook; and four sisters, Ruby Church, Margaret Callender, Laverne Costilow, and Billie Carolyn Ellis.
Mrs. Henry is survived by two daughters; Patricia H. Pilgrim and husband Mack of Lafayette, La. and Kay H. Lancaster and husband Bill of Sunflower; and two grandchildren, Mikki Pilgrim-Roach and husband JR of Broussard, La. and Marcy B. Lancaster of Goyang-Si, South Korea.
The family will receive friends today from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Sunflower Baptist Church in Sunflower. Burial will follow in Moorhead Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola is in charge of arrangements.
