SUNFLOWER NEWS: Mr. Spina has moved to town for the winter. He made ten bales of cotton without hired help. His wife canned enough fruits and vegetables to last through the winter besides making a nice sum of money from their garden.
The community was shocked Thursday when it was reported that Mr. Furr was dead. Mr. Archibald went to his room and found him dead in bed. His remains were taken to Shannon for burial. Messrs. Lancaster and Butler went with Mr Archibald on the sad mission to bury Mr. Furr.

Mrs. Seymour Johnson of Indianola has been elected President of the Northeast Girl Scout Council.
After 37 years of association with Peoples Bank of Indianola Mrs. Christine P. Swartz is taking an extended leave of absence. “I don’t like that word, retirement, after all I will still be a member of the Board of Directors,” she said. Through the years she served as assistant teller all the way up to President.
Sheriff Jack Sessums was elected President of the Mississippi Sheriffs Association at the annual meeting held last week in Meridian.

The Gentry High basketball team is ranked sixth in the state after their win over Cleveland Eastside. Donie Boatman lead the scoring with 28 points followed by Eddie Warren with 11.
OBIT: Mrs. Jessie Pierce Lee died Tuesday, November 23 at the South Sunflower County Hospital She was a co-founder and patron of the Mid Delta Arts Association. She was a member of the Downtown Merchants Association and the First United Methodist Church. Her favorite pastime was fishing.

FROM AN ARTICLE BY DAVID RUSHING: A most unusual reunion occurred in Indianola Saturday. Kurt Mueller of Aldenburg, Germany returned to visit after a 59-year absence. He was a prisoner of war at the old-World War II prison camp that was located in the vicinity where the Indianola School District Administrative Office is located now.
POLITICS: The tallies are in and it appears there will be a run-off for Mayor between incumbent Arthur Marble and challenger, Coroner Douglas Card.
