UPDATE ON DREW McDOWELL.
In last week’s column, 50 years ago, Drew McDowell was featured. He was a senior in high school and was holding his recital at First Baptist Church in Inverness. Today, Drew McDowell is First Vice President of Planters Bank and Trust Company in Indianola and still making music. His first instructors in piano were Ann Wall and Priscilla Lester.
“Priscilla had an organ and piano at her home and started showing me about the organ at the time I was taking piano. I loved both and played at First Baptist Church in Inverness at times. When Rose Harper retired at First Methodist in Indianola in 1986, they asked if I would play until they found someone. I guess they found someone, I have been there since. I am often asked to play at weddings and funerals which I am happy to do,” McDowell said.
He said that music is his hobby but he enjoys crossword puzzles and has recently gotten into genealogy. He and his wife, Dianne have two sons, Andrew and Morgan.
