LOCAL NEWS: R. C., Fox of Duck Hill, one of our state’s best citizens, was in Indianola Monday with his son, R. C., Jr. who is in charge of their valuable properties just north of here.
SCHOOL NEWS: At school’s ending, there were four medals awarded for scholarship. The grammar school winners were Bob Sanders and Billy Early. High school winners were Pauline Early and Francis Early.

Robin Randall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Randall of Baird was crowned Miss Sunflower County for 1970, Miss Debra Sue Moody, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Moody of Drew was named First Alternate.
SERVICE NEWS: Cadet Captain James E. Colotta, son of Mrs. Ignatious Collota has graduated from the U S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School. He will begin his four-year academic and military training.

The Indianola High School Classes of 1949 and 1950 held a joint reunion last weekend. Joe Buchanan, Class of 1950 was Master of Ceremonies. A special thanks was given to Mrs. William V. Buchanan (Charlotte, Class of 1950) for her outstanding job of organizing the reunion. Other members of the committee were Mrs. Chester Holloway (Myrtle), Mrs. Sam Ely, Jr. (Joan), Arthur Richardson, Mrs. J. D. Watson (Hazel) and Mrs. Leeroy Smithhart (Sara).

The USTA women’s adult team from the Indianola Country Club won the Delta title and will be competing in the state championships. Members of the team are Cindy Ray Dicks, Cindy McCarty Sligh, Barbara Hill, Sue Kimbrell, Katie Yates, Debbie Reynolds, Joyce Hull, Renee Smith, Marsha Bishop and Alice Pyles.
COLLEGE NEWS: Students from Indianola who attend Millsaps College having a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the 1975 spring semester are Mary Gardner Pitts and Lenantra Carlotta Brownlee.
DELTA COUNCIL NEWS: Jack Harris of Inverness was elected Vice President of Delta Council at the 60th annual meeting. Directors from Sunflower County are Rodgers Brashier and Bill Kennedy. Walton Gresham and Randy Randall will represent Indianola. At large directors are Hugh Arant, Jr. John Rodgers Brashier, Bruce Brumfield, Bill Gresham, Seymour Johnson, John McPherson Robertson, Billy Robertson and Woods Eastland

IA TENNIS NEWS: IA’S CHAMPIONSHIP TENNIS TEAM WON STATE TITLES. They are Margaret Ross Long, Mary Chandler Allen, Crawford Baird, Ann Hall Brashier, John Thomas Robertson and Van Poindexter.
FRONT PAGE NEWS:
Silver and gold shovels will turn the first dirt towards the future B. B. King Museum at a big ceremony Friday at 10:30. The legendary B. B. King, many of his relatives and friends, two former governors of Mississippi and other dignitaries are scheduled to be in attendance.
UPDATE ON MARY GARDNER PITTS
Twenty-five years ago, Mary was a stellar student at Millsaps College with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Today she is married to Jim Huffstetler and they have two sons, Will 14 and Mac 11. They live in Macon, Georgia. After graduating from Millsaps, she obtained a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University in 1997.
She leads an active lifestyle as a wife and mother but still found time to develop two companies, MPH & Associates which is a transportation planning service and Little Guide Macon.
Mary inherited a love for the outdoors from her parents, Willie Mitchell and Mary Mac Pitts of Indianola. Like her parents, she enjoys exercise and bicycling. She is an avid reader and writer. She and her family enjoy coming back to Indianola to visit relatives and friends.
