LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Dear Mr. Richardson, Will you please send my Tocsin to me up here in Colorado. I miss it so much especially since all my folks have moved away. I am no longer in the sanatorium but up in the mountains. It’s beautiful but the altitude is not so good when you have a bum heart like mine, Thanks ever so much. Mrs. Bookout.

From a feature by this writer: Like the rest of the nation, Sunflower County has seen an increase in the sport of motorcycling and in some cases, it’s a family affair. Larry and Donna Brashier, Joe and Diane Athey of Inverness and Ricky Boyles of Indianola went to Yellowstone Park last summer on their motorcycles
UPDATE ON
MOTORCYLISTS LARRY AND DONNA STEED BRASHIER
Larry and Donna don’t motorcycle anymore, but still lead very active lifestyles. After retirement from one career, Larry started to work for Donahoe Farms and at times as a handyman for Planters Bank. Donna has been the Planters Bank hostess for 13 years in September.
“I enjoy my job as hostess, greeting and meeting people and I am host for all the board meetings. Planters Bank is a great place to work, we are all just like family,” Donna said.
In the article Donna said that one of the things she enjoyed most about traveling over the country was the shopping.
When queried about packing everything onto the motorcycle Larry answered for her. “Oh, she loves those words FedEx and UPS. She knows how to shop and ship”.
The Brashiers love their home on Percy Street which is one of the oldest on the street.
Her expertise in decorating shines through and many of the items she bought on her motorcycle trips are displayed.
They both enjoy gardening and their home is always one of the best decorated in the holiday seasons
Ricky Boyles is still riding. Last August he and two friends, Kenny McClain and Joe Athey made a trip to the Badlands and Sturgis, South Dakota.
Ricky is a longtime businessman in Indianola.
He owns and operates Boyles Sales and Services on Highway 81.
WRITER’S NOTE: When I was assigned this article by Jim Abbptt, editor, he told me it would be a good idea if I would take a ride on one so I would know more about it.
Ricky was the lucky guy who got to take this 73-year-old woman (at the time) for a breezy ride along Highway 82.
Even though it was July, I nearly froze to death.
Ricky was very patient and put up with my squeals of apprehension.
When I was writing about Mike Hanson, the award-winning hot air balloonist from Indianola, Jim also thought I should go floating over Indianola in that basket with Mike.
I am apprehensive of heights, but what a wonderful experience.
When my editor gave me the task of writing about a young Golden Gloves champ, I told him that I had to draw the line, I couldn’t possibly get in a boxing ring for a round with a champion..
