Well, it’s happened again.
At 7:52 a.m. on Thursday morning, I became a father to a healthy baby girl.
Sarah Margaret Anna Davis was born at six pounds and 10 ounces.
Both baby and momma are doing well, and thankfully, back home in Indianola to stay.
To say the past two months has been a whirlwind is an understatement.
It was early July when I saw the posting for the Publisher position at The Enterprise-Tocsin. By late July, I knew that I was going to be moving, but it wasn’t quite that easy.
My wife was around 37 weeks pregnant. She was working a full-time job at a real estate company and was selling houses on the side.
Ellie, Sarah’s loving sister, was just getting used to all of her friends and teachers at her daycare.
So the decision was made that I would come to Indianola by myself to start this job on Aug. 4.
Callie needed a couple of weeks to finish out her job, train her replacement and close on a house.
Those were two very hard weeks spent without my girls.
Even when they came to Indianola on Aug. 19, there were many days and nights spent without Callie and Ellie as they traveled back to Tuscaloosa on multiple occasions to go to doctor’s appointments and to take care of real estate business.
Two weeks ago, Callie told me that when she went back for her last appointment, she was going to have to stay in Alabama.
After a summer of selling houses, chasing a 22-month old and carrying our newest addition, she finally said “Tuscaloosa is where I am and Tuscaloosa is where I’m going to stay.”
At least until the baby was born.
And so last Wednesday, I approved the last pages of the Sept. 14 edition of the paper and headed out for T-Town for one last time.
I can say that after spending four days in a hospital and four days away from work, I am very happy to be home in Indianola – for good.
I am even more happy to have my family back with me.
Even though we have officially been in Indianola for a few weeks now, it actually feels like this chapter in our lives is just now beginning.
