Dear Editor,
The Mississippi Senate Bill 2398 was set forth to amend the law that requires the vaccinations of children to attend school, kindergarten or similar facilities for schools, either private or public. The child may receive the vaccinations at the local Health Department or a private doctor’s office. The child is to provide the school with proof that the vaccinations have been received. By law, the child is required to be vaccinated.
The SB2398 immunization law will not apply to a child whose parents or legal guardian will disagree with the immunizations of his/her child, based on their religious beliefs. In order to be exempted from the vaccinations, the parent must provide an affidavit to prove or affirm the immunization is a conflict with the religious beliefs.
I believe the children should be able to receive an alternate solution to the vaccinations, regardless of the parent’s religious beliefs. The child/children should not be allowed to be able to come to school due to the child may become sick and spread germs. The parents should take measures to make sure their children are protected from contracting a communicable disease, as well as preventing them from spreading germs in case they become sick.
