Dear Editor:
This a good time for all citizens to come together and support our city employees. I was disappointed to hear some of our administrators were proposing for our city workers to pay additional costs for their healthcare.
They are working for $7.25 per hour. Their take home pay is less than $200.00 per week. Those people are heads of households and have families to support. The city administrators should work to increase the pay for these employees to at least $13.00 per hour, no matter what it requires. Do not hire another high cost supervisor until this is done.
We can use our present workforce and promote within the present force. Our workers are needed to maintain our city. They are essential and we depend on them and they deserve our support.
We spend too much on vehicles; purchasing 250 Series 4x4 and carrying a lawn mower mounted on a trailer. We need better insight to manage the resources of our city.
If you do not believe our city workers are not worth decent pay, then we should lock the public works gates for one (1) month and give city workers a vacation. God forbid if your water main breaks, our ditches overflows, streets cave in and a tree falls, etc. Try managing these tasks on your own and see how you manage. If you do not believe the employees work meets your expectation, you must blame the high paid administrators because they are in charge of the day to day operation.
The analogy is if the city pretends to pay the employees half right to pretend to work.
Therefore, we must give employees the motivation to work faithfully on their jobs. We do not want that task.
Thank you for your help.
