Paul Lee Irvin Jr., affectionately known as Bubba, 71, of Belzoni, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at his home.
Bubba was born Sept. 16, 1953, in Belzoni, to Paul and Bessie McGlawn Irvin. He was a lifelong resident of Belzoni. Bubba graduated from Humphreys County High School, Delta State University, and he earned his master’s degree in education from Mississippi Valley State University. He worked as a health inspector for the Mississippi State Department of Health for 25 years prior to his retirement. After retiring from the state, he worked as a security guard for Freshwater Farms. Bubba was a faithful member and deacon at Gooden Lake Baptist Church in Belzoni. He enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, and watching sports. He attended many Delta State and Ole Miss basketball and football games. Bubba adored his great-nephew, John Luke. He enjoyed watching him play sports and spending time with him.
Bubba was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Bessie Irvin; brother-in-law, Joe Bell; and great-nephew, Colton Reid Buchanan.
He is survived by his sister, Alinda Bell of Belzoni; two nieces, Mary Ellen Buchanan (Jason) of Belzoni and Jo Lynne Bell of Hattiesburg; and a great-nephew, John Luke Buchanan.
Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at Gooden Lake Baptist Church in Belzoni. The funeral service began at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Marty Wilson officiating. Burial followed at Belzoni Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements.
