Below is a press release from Right On Time:
Right on Crime announced it will host the Dollars & Sense of Second Chance Hiring: Mississippi Employer Engagement Forum in Jackson on Thursday, November 4.
Government and business experts from across the state will come together to discuss the untapped resource of dependable and engaged citizens who have been formerly incarcerated, a potential workforce of more than 6,600 annually in Mississippi. Reducing recidivism rates can lead to greater public safety and will reduce the burdens on Mississippi taxpayers.
“There’s never been a better time to make Mississippi ‘Reentry Ready,’ and Right on Crime is dedicated to emphasizing the importance of second chances,” said Right on Crime Mississippi State Director Scott Peyton. “It’s critical to connect public programs, resources and agencies with Mississippi’s businesses to bridge the gaps and create opportunities for dependable and engaged employees.”
This important workforce conversation will be led by Peyton, a former probation and parole officer, as well as an influential criminal justice reform advocate in Louisiana and Mississippi. Peyton will be joined by government and business community experts from across the state as they talk about the tax credits and resources to support Mississippi employers that overcome the misconceptions of second chance hiring.
