Good Mornin’! Good Mornin’!
Back in the saddle again.
Yep, when I went to college, there were three things on my mind. I was either going to be the next great ESPN SportsCenter anchor, the next David Letterman – hey, he had to retire sometime or I wanted to be a cowboy actor. Well, that was a dream from childhood but I’d choose it over the other two in a heartbeat.
One great thing that happened though, well, there were a whole bunch at Ole Miss, was I got to host a few shows but my favorite was a 30-minute show called Prime Time. Actually, it was handed down to me by a duo of the funniest guys to walk on this planet, Shannon Aker and Bryan Kennedy.
They didn’t need guests but I did as I only had a sliver of their talents and abilities. I hosted the show for a few years and loved every second of it.
After graduating, I meandered career wise and one day became a freelance writer who relied on all the skills I’d assembled working in radio, TV and newspaper at Ole Miss. But being back on camera was always a dream. Then a couple weeks ago, my favorite editor and publisher hit me up with this idea to host a Zoom show with local Mississippi Delta talent. I kind of jokingly said we could call it “Prime Time with Bryan and Mark.” I had to put him first, he’s the boss.
He liked the name.
We talked a little more, got two great guests and recorded our first show last week and now it’s live on the internet for all the world to see.
We had Drew native and resident and entrepreneur farmer Stafford Shurden on as well as local awesome musical talent, Jason Whittington who played and sang original tunes. Both were awesome! Jason said he was nervous but I couldn’t tell.
Stafford was incredible. We had fun for 30 minutes and turned the cameras off. Boss-man Bryan did a touch of editing to add music and an intro for the show.
But who knows, maybe Hollywood will get restarted and need a cowboy to relive some Gene Autry and Roy Rogers type story lines. I might need to touch up my horse-riding skills. The last I can remember was probably 1989 or so around Nashville.
And I’ll need a good cowboy hat. A man can still dream, right? Our new show, hopefully will entertain and educate and promote some awesome people. Y’all tune in by going to Facebook and following the Enterprise Tocsin or go to the Enterprise Tocsin website.
Oh, and Bryan changed the name before filming. It’s “Prime Time with Mark and Bryan.” I got top billing, now I got to make sure I’m worth it for everybody’s sake. I hope y’all tune in and enjoy and hey, give us some ideas of folks to talk to and get on with their musical talents.
I’m back in the saddle again!
