Playing their third road game in as many weeks, the Gentry High Rams football team is on the hunt for their first win of the season.
An attempt to make that happen will occur at 7 p.m. today in Belzoni when the 0-2 Rams will take on an 0-2 squad of Cowboys from Humphreys County High.
The Rams are hoping to rebound from last week’s 38-20 Unity Bowl loss to Thomas Edwards High in Ruleville.
“We played better in spots,” said Gentry Head Coach Derrick Farrow of last Friday’s game. “We will just keep on chopping wood, working to get better and consistent.”
Tonight, the Rams will take on a Humphreys County squad which also suffered a tough loss last Friday night.
Playing their first of three consecutive home dates, the Cowboys fell in overtime to now 2-0 South Delta High of Rolling Fork by a 28-26 margin.
Meanwhile, in their season-opening game two weeks ago, the Humphreys County squad dropped a 36-12 road decision to 1-1 Yazoo City High School.
The Cowboys will no doubt be anxious to begin turning their season around tonight at the Rams’ expense.
Humphreys County High’s two losses suffered thus far already exceed last season’s campaign, which saw the Cowboys accumulate an 11-1 record.
During that 2024 season, the Cowboys were a force as they ran through all their competition until the second round of the 3A state playoffs.
It was in that second round when a loss to East Webster High ended the Cowboys’ impressive season.
Among those double-digit Humphreys County High wins earned in 2024 was a 36-0 blanking of Gentry High School – a loss which ended a four-game win streak the Rams had been enjoying over the Cowboys.
Historically, on the football field Gentry High owns a 29-14 series advantage over Humphreys County High.
