Note: The Rams fell on Thursday night in the quuarterfinals to Canton High School.
A 200-mile road trip did not faze the Gentry High Rams basketball team at all last Friday.
For the Rams opened their participation in the 5A State Playoffs with a 46-40 victory over the home-standing Corinth High School Warriors (9-19).
In addition to that win improving their record to an 8-20 mark, the Rams only had to travel roughly 20 miles Thursday night to compete in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
However, that trip to Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena was versus a very familiar opponent in the form of Region 2 champion Canton High School.
While the result of that contest was unavailable at press time, a Gentry High victory would send the Rams to Jackson’s Mississippi Coliseum for a semi-final playoff appearance.
That semifinal game will occur next Tuesday against the winner of this week’s Brookhaven-Laurel quarter-final matchup.
Game time is to be announced but will occur at either 6 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.
In the Rams’ clutch win over Corinth High School, it was Draven Walker once again pacing the scoring for the Gentry squad.
The sophomore torched the Warriors with 20 points while Kingsley Faint just missed double digit scoring with his nine-point performance.
Meanwhile, the Rams’ balanced scoring attack received another eight points apiece from Kylon Appleberry and Otis Cole.
Appleberry also led the way for the Rams under the basket by pulling down nine rebounds against the Warriors.
