A much-needed victory on the football field came in an emphatic way for the North Sunflower Academy Rebels.
Following a long road trip last Friday to Pheba, the now 1-3 Rebels stepped off their bus and handed the Hebron Christian School Eagles (0-4) a 74-6 drubbing.
Finding the end zone often and quickly, the Rebels used six different players to post points on the scoreboard in their game with the Eagles.
However, another road trip awaits the Rebels today as they will be making their way to West Helena, Arkansas, to take on the DeSoto School Thunderbirds.
With kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m., the NSA squad will face off against the defending state champion Thunderbirds.
In their own most recent action last Friday, DeSoto School defeated Lee Academy of Marianna, Arkansas, by a 34-14 margin.
That victory improved DeSoto School’s record to a 2-1 mark. The Thunderbirds’ only loss this season was a 52-16 decision to undefeated Humphreys Academy of Belzoni.
Meanwhile, NSA also fell to that same Humphreys Academy squad three weeks ago by a 54-6 margin.
Another common opponent to both NSA and DeSoto School thus far this season was Calhoun Academy.
While the Thunderbirds claimed a 36-14 victory over the Cougars, the Rebels suffered a 52-6 loss.
Although NSA does own a 12-10 series advantage over DeSoto School, last season the Thunderbirds’ state championship season included a 58-0 win over the Rebels.
In last Friday’s win over Hebron Christian School, on offense the Rebels used a pair of touchdowns apiece from Lake Clem and Omarion Williams to lead the NSA scoring parade.
Also reaching the end zone once apiece for the Rebels were Grayson Barnett, Wyatt Barr, Cash Goss and Dylan Patterson.
Defensively, the Rebels also posted points on the scoreboard after Avritt McNutt returned his pass interception for a touchdown.
Also picking off an Eagles’ pass were Patterson and Parker Goss.
En route to recording a big night personally, Patterson also joined Dawsyn Grantham and Williams in recovering a fumble apiece.
