The Sunflower County Consolidated School District (SCCSD) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. James Johnson Waldington as the district’s next superintendent.
A proud graduate of Sunflower County School District, Mr. Waldington returns home to lead the very district that shaped his educational foundation and where he began his career in education.
Mr. Waldington brings a wealth of leadership experience to the role, having served as superintendent in multiple Mississippi Delta school districts, including Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District, South Delta School District, and Hollandale School District. His career in education began in Sunflower County as a teacher at Ruleville Central High School before advancing to administrative roles, including principal of Ruleville Central High and assistant principal at both Ruleville High and Ruleville Middle School. Mr. Waldington earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Delta State University,

Mr. Waldington has dedicated his career to improving educational outcomes for students in the Mississippi Delta by fostering transparency, collaboration, and student-centered decision-making. He has successfully led multiple school districts from F-ratings to successful or high-performing status by implementing strategic improvements, strengthening community involvement, and prioritizing open communication as essential components of academic success and district growth.

"This district provided me with a strong foundation, and I am committed to ensuring that every student will have access to the same high-quality education that shaped my journey. I look forward to working alongside our educators, families, and community partners to build on the district’s successes and to continue its growth."
Mr. Waldington will officially assume his role on July 1, 2025.
