Meet Your Teacher Event
The Sunflower County Consolidated School District is holding “Meet Your Teacher” events at each of the schools. Parents and students can meet their new teachers and also familiarize themselves with the environment:
nCarver Elementary is planning two “Meet Your Teacher” events.
Thursday, Aug. 3, third grade only, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Friday Aug. 4 for fourth, fifth and sixth grades from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
nA.W. James Elementary - Friday, Aug. 4, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
nMerritt Junior High - Thursday, Aug. 3 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
nRuleville Central High School - Thursday, Aug. 3 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
nLockard Elementary - Friday, Aug. 4, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
nEast Sunflower Elementary - Thursday, Aug. 3 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

School Supply Give-A-Way
School supplies will be given out at the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department at 10 a.m. Friday.
School Supply Give-A-Way
John G. Johnson Jones Lodge No. 1903 of Inverness will be passing out school supplies for all children from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Pure service station in Inverness. Refreshments will be provided and haircut vouchers will be given away. Supplies are limited, first-come, first-serve. Donations are welcome. Class of ‘68
The Gentry High School Class of 1968 is having a class meeting at 5 p.m. Sunday at 406 B.B. King Road. Tentative plans are to discuss the 50th year reunion.
Class of ‘85
The Gentry High School Class of 1985 will meet at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 at the Guadalajara Mexican restuarant. They will be discussing homecoming. Please be in attendance and on time.
Indianola Youth Soccer
The Indianola Youth Soccer Organization is now accepting applications for the fall season. Applications can be found at local banks and are due Aug. 14 For more information email Indianolayso@yahoo.com.
Food Safety Course
The ServSafe Food Safety Course will be offered in Indianola starting at 7:30 a.m Tuesday, Aug. 29. The class will be held at the Sunflower County Consolidated School District Central Office on U.S. 49. Cost is $140 per person. Space is limited; deadline to register is Aug. 18. If you have any questions or want to obtain registration information, please contact Ann Twiner, MSU-Extension Agent, at 887- 1901. Indianola Junior Rams

YouthBuild MACE is accepting applications for its “Multiply Indianola” location for young adults 16 to 24. Transportation will be provided. Moton’s 5th Back to School Rally
There will be a Back to School Rally for students of Ruleville Public Schools at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 at Ruleville City Park. South Sunflower Hospital Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
South Sunflower County Hospital invites the public to its open house and ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly renovated facility. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25 at 121 E. Baker St. There will be guided tours following the ribbon cutting ceremony. nLearn healthy eating skills to strengthen your family and community at the Henry M. Seymour Library from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 17.
nIn honor of Family Fun Month, Wacky Games Competitions will be held for family entertaining from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Drew Library and on Aug. 22 at the Ruleville library.
nCreate healthy habits during the month of August at the Henry M. Seymour Library on Tuesdays. Get moving with line dancing at 5 p.m. and then stretch it out with yoga at 6. (No yoga Aug. 15 and Aug. 22.)
