Closing out the 2018 portion of their basketball schedule with two tournament wins in three tries, the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels now have two games in three days ahead of them.
Currently owning a 7-7, 1-1 record, the Lady Colonels will travel to Bayou Academy in Cleveland today for a District 1-AAA match-up.
Tip-off time for this important road trip is 6 p.m.
Additional basketball action then occurs with a rare Saturday game, as Heritage Academy of Columbus will visit the IA gym for a 1:00 p.m. non-district clash.
As for their past week’s play in the Kirk Academy Tournament in Grenada, the Lady Colonels shrugged off an opening game loss and responded with a pair of victories to close out their three day participation.
In their final tournament outing last Saturday, IA Head Coach Allen Hill’s squad earned a 38-25 victory over Washington School of Greenville.
Helping to fuel this win, the Lady Colonels limited the Lady Generals to single digit scoring in all but the final quarter of the game.
Owning a 16-8 lead at halftime, the IA squad outscored Washington School 22-17 in the second half to take the game to its final margin of victory.
A balanced scoring attack was had by IA in this game, an effort led by Anna Berry Stevens and Avery Daniels; the pair would post nine and eight points respectively on the scoreboard.
This victory was preceded by a hard-fought 39-38 decision over Canton Academy last Friday.
With Berry’s 24 point game leading the way, the IA girls’ five point halftime lead (21-16) proved to be pivotal.
For the Lady Panthers of Canton stormed back in the second half to outscore IA by a 22-18 margin; an effort which left them one point shy of the Lady Colonels by game’s end.
Also turning in a double figure performance for IA was Mallory Price, who pulled down 10 rebounds in the contest.
In their tournament opening game last Thursday, the IA squad suffered their only loss of the weekend as top-ranked Leake Academy of Madden recorded a 57-20 win over the Lady Colonels.
