With the 2017-18 basketball regular season now complete, the Indianola Academy Colonels are poised to move on to post-season play.
On the strength of an 18-4, 7-1 record, Coach Allen Hill’s squad will enter this week’s District 1AAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed; a position which also guarantees the Colonels a berth in the upcoming North AAA Tournament.
Hosted by Bayou Academy in Cleveland, this week’s district tournament will see the Colonels initially take the floor Friday at 7:15 p.m. against the winner of tonight’s North Delta-Bayou Academy match-up.
Should the Colonels claim this opening game, they will return to Bayou Academy on Saturday for the 5:45 district championship game.
The consolation game will tip-off at 3:15 that same day.
As for the following week’s North AAA Tournament to be hosted by North Delta School in Batesville, the Colonels’ opening day, time, and opponent are to be determined.
The top four teams emerging from the North AAA Tournament will move on one week later to the State AAA Tournament to be hosted by Columbia Academy.
While postseason play is next on their agenda, the Colonels recently completed their regular season action by claiming successive wins over Manchester Academy and Winona Christian School.
In their most recent, and final home game of the season, the Colonels manhandled Winona Christian School by a 57-32 margin Monday night.
With nine IA players bucketing baskets in this contest, Randy Kimble’s dozen points led the way. Also recording baskets for their final game inside the IA gym were seniors T.K. Bolden (9 points), Lakerius Lee (7 points), and David Mason (5 points).
Other action occurred last Friday at Manchester Academy in Yazoo City where the Colonels claimed a 63-52 decision over the Mavericks.
Kimble again paced IA’s scoring with 21 points while Stefon Smith was close behind with his 20 point effort.
Also reaching double digit scoring was Bolden, who completed his night’s play with a dozen points scored.
