In the midst of a five game run of District 2-3A contests, the Indianola Academy Colonels have recently appeared on the verge of earning their first victory of the season.
Suffering one close loss among a pair of home-court games played this past week, the now 0-13, 0-4 Colonels most recently fell in Tuesday night’s 59-42 loss to Winona Christian School.
This loss was preceded by last Friday’s 47-45 nail-biting loss to visiting Central Holmes Christian School of Lexington.
As for their upcoming play, this Friday will find the Colonels at Carroll Academy for a 7 p.m. District 2-3A contest.
In their loss to Central Holmes Christian School, the Colonels battled back from a 25-17 halftime deficit by outscoring the Trojans 28-22 in the second half of the game.
However, that effort would fall two points shy of knotting the game, forcing the Colonels to suffer the defeat.
Pacing the scoring for IA this night was Ashton Powell with a 16-point effort.
Also reaching double digit status in the rebound category was Grant Coleman, who added eight points to the 10 rebounds earned by the junior.
In their loss to Winona Christian School, the Colonels went to the dressing room at halftime only down by a 24-22 margin.
It would be the Stars who came out hot, however, as they opened the third period with an 11-2 scoring run; an outburst which ultimately helped them to earn their victory.
Cole Ferrell would lead the IA scoring attack with 15 points while Brayden Kimble hit double digits with a dozen rebounds.
