With the regular season winding down and basketball playoffs on the horizon, the Indianola Academy Colonels will take their 10-9 record to Manchester Academy this Friday.
This 7 p.m. contest to be played in Yazoo City represents the Colonels’ final regular season game prior to the District 1AAA Tournament.
Set to begin February 7, this initial postseason play will be hosted by Indianola Academy and the brackets are to be announced.
As for their most recent action, the Colonels claimed two victories in their three games played this past week.
Wrapping their pair of wins around a loss, the Colonels most recently earned a 40-37 Monday night decision over Kirk Academy of Grenada while last Thursday’s play earned a 42-37 decision over visiting Starkville Academy.
Their lone loss this past week occurred Tuesday night when a strong Greenville Christian School squad defeated the Colonels by a 62-55 margin.
Leading the scoring in the IA win over Starkville Academy was Randy Kimble while Stefon Smith turned in the first of his two double double performances of the week. The senior bucketed 11 points while grabbing 14 rebounds.
Against Kirk Academy, it was Smith’s 17 point, 15 rebound night of play which paced the Colonels.
Again reaching double figure scoring was Kimble, who posted 14 points on the scoreboard.
In their hard-fought loss to visiting Greenville Christian School, a game knotted at 32 points by halftime saw the Saints outscore IA in the second half to earn the win.
Kimble’s 21point outing led the IA scoring while Smith and DeDe Willis added 15 and 14 points respectively.
