Per Yogi Berra “It’s deja vu all over again.”
For the second consecutive year a baseball playoff berth is assured for the defending state champion Indianola Academy Colonels; but the seeding for that playoff is yet to be decided.
And for the second consecutive year, the 13-5-1Colonels must sweep a double header from Bayou Academy of Cleveland this Thursday in order to claim the District 1AAA championship and the number one seed headed into next week’s playoffs.
This scenario has come into play following Tuesday night’s 8-6 homefield loss to Bayou Academy of Cleveland.
In this upcoming pivotal twin-bill scheduled to be played at Bayou Academy, the opening game is scheduled to be played at 4 p.m.
Whatever the inevitable seeding the IA squad earns, their opponent will be either Heritage Academy of Columbus or Starkville Academy.
Tentatively scheduled to begin next Tuesday, game time of this first round of the playoffs is to be announced.
As for Tuesday night’s loss to Bayou Academy, the Colonels picked the wrong night to have a subpar game.
Despite suffering from the deadly combination of walks and errors, the Colonels used a four run fourth inning rally to help battle back from a 5-1 deficit.
Overcoming this deficit was aided primarily by RBI singles from Reed Junkin and Thomas Putnam, who drove two across the plate with his liner up the middle.
With the game eventually knotted at six runs after five innings of play, the Colts would then take advantage of IA mistakes to help plate one run in each of the final pair of innings.
On the mound, Josh Hill’s five innings of work included 11 strikeouts with five walks while surrendering six hits.
Will Davis and James Hill closed out the game and Hill’s 1 2/3 innings of no-hit work featured one strikeout and one walk.
At the plate, the Colonels’ eight hit attack was led by a pair of singles apiece from James Hill and Logan White (one RBI).
