Weber Herbison's two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave the No. 10/1 Delta State University baseball (17-2, 9-2 GSC) team a 3-2 win over the University of West Georgia (6-14, 3-7 GSC) in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Sunday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.
The win also gave the Statesmen the GSC series win, 2-1.
CJ Estave walked, Matt Majeur singled and Hayden White was hit by a pitch to start the seventh and set up Herbison's walk off single to left field.
West Georgia scored two runs in the sixth and added a run in the ninth to overcome a 1-0 deficit and claim a 3-1 win in game one.
HOW IT HAPPENED GM 1
Brett Young singled and scored on a CJ Estave single up the middle to give the Statesmen a 1-0 lead.
The lead held until the sixth when the Wolves scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Joe Skinner's pinch-hit single scored Cade Marlow and Brody Wortham singled home Logan Taylor.
The Statesmen put runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings but could not capitalize.
West Georgia added an insurance run in the ninth Taylor double that scored Brian Dansereau.
HOW IT HAPPENED GM 2
West Georgia took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Brady Barnes was hit by a pitch and scored on Drew Haywood's single.
Darek Sargent singled and scored on a Brett Young single to left field to tie the game, 1-1.
The Wolves regained a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Lane Griffith walked and later scored on a Taylor sac-fly to right field.
Estave walked, Majeur singled and Hayden White was hit by a pitch to start the seventh inning. After a strikeout, Herbison singled to left field to score pinch-runner Michael Allen and Majeur for the 3-2 win.
