Having just completed a three-game string of Region 3-4A basketball contests, the Gentry High Rams will now briefly go outside regional play.
Owning a 16-3, 3-1 record, the Rams will travel to Amanda Elzy High of Greenwood tonight for the first of the three 7 p.m. contests to be played this next week.
In addition to their strong won-loss record, the Rams have also recently been selected as the No. 5 ranked team among 4A schools in the state per the Mississippi Gridiron magazine.
Further basketball action occurs this Saturday when Humphreys County High School of Belzoni visits the Gentry High gym for the first of three consecutive home dates the Rams are poised to enjoy.
Meanwhile, Region 3-4A competition returns next Tuesday when the Blue Devils of Rosa Fort High in Tunica come to town.
As for the Rams most recent play, this past Tuesday found Head Coach Chico Potts’ squad at Clarksdale High School where a 56-51 victory was earned over the Wildcats.
This was preceded by last Friday’s 63-58 decision over the Greenwood High Bulldogs.
During their most recent play Tuesday night, the Rams overcame a 39-37 deficit after three quarters of action to claim the game.
Fueling this come-back was a 19-12 scoring run the Rams were able to put together by way of aggressive defense.
Leading the scoring for the Rams in this contest was Jesse Hull. The senior struck for 16 points against the Bulldogs’ defense.
In last Friday’s five point victory over Greenwood High, the Rams benefited from a strong second period which saw them outscore the Bulldogs by a 20-13 margin.
Leading the scoring for the Rams in this game was Ladarius Johnson as the senior bucketed 16 points over the Bulldogs’ defensive efforts.
Also reaching double digit scoring was sophomore Christopher Minton, who completed his night’s play with an 11-point performance.
