The 2019 basketball season came to an abrupt end for the Gentry High Lady Rams last Friday night.
Picking a bad night to have an off game, the Lady Rams fell 49-45 to the visiting Senatobia High Lady Warriors in this second round of the State 4A playoffs.
Seeing their season end with a 23-6 record and a Region 3-4A championship, the Lady Rams fought back in the third period to overcome a 24-19 halftime deficit.
However, with the Gentry squad owning a 33-31 lead as the game entered the final quarter of play, that momentum was lost.
For it would be the Lady Warriors who had the hot hand as they outscored the Lady Rams 18-12 to take the score to its final margin of victory.
The Senatobia (22-9) squad would also move on to see their season end three nights later. The Lady Warriors were eliminated from the playoffs by Louisville High School in a 57-55 contest.
Leading the scoring for Gentry High in its final game of the season was Nyah Davis with a dozen points.
Also reaching double figure scoring against the Senatobia defense was Shacori Dawson, who dropped 10 points through the basket.
There were four seniors who played critical roles in the Lady Rams’ success this season and those team members were also wearing the Gentry High uniform for the final time last Friday night.
That list includes Nyah Davis, Mercedes Hayes, Belize Reed, and Khadijah White.
