Picking up two Region 3-4A victories among their three games played this past week, the 11-5, 2-0 Gentry High Rams return to their home-court this Friday for additional non-regional basketball action.
With a 7 p.m. tip-off slated at Ruleville Central High School, this contest not only begins a run of five consecutive home dates, but also serves as the final basketball game of the 2018 calendar year for the Rams.
In their most recent play Tuesday night at Yazoo City High School, the Rams came back home with a 47-35 regional victory to their credit.
The Rams made this game interesting, however, before they earned the win.
After spotting the Indians a 13-2 first period lead, the Rams stormed back with a 14-2 second quarter run to take a narrow 16-15 lead to the dressing room at halftime.
However, with the third period ending with Yazoo City owning a 26-24 lead, the Rams took over the game in the final frame by outscoring the Indians 23-9 to earn the win.
Robert Bell led the Rams in scoring this night as he dropped 17 points through the basket.
Double digits were also reached by Markevious Frazier with 13 points and Shamarvious Hodges, who just missed a double double with his 10 rebounds and nine points scored.
Meanwhile, another regional victory was earned last Friday when the Rams defeated visiting Tunica Rosa Fort High by a 63-54 margin.
In between these two additions to the win column, the Rams dropped a 53-39 decision to Forest Hill High School last Saturday in a game played at Aberdeen High School.
Currently ranked as the No. 7 team in the state, and No. 3 among 5A schools, the Patriots of the Jackson-based school never trailed in the game.
Leading the offensive efforts for Gentry High in this game was Bell, whose double double included a dozen points and 10 rebounds.
In the Rams’ home-court victory over Tunica Rosa Fort High, a 32-21 Gentry halftime lead proved too much for the Lions to overcome.
Bell would be the high scorer for the Rams in this game as the senior pumped 21 points through the basket.
