After turning in a very competitive District 1AAA Tournament performance last week, the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels saw their season end in Tuesday’s opening game of the North State AAA Tournament.
Completing their season with an 11-14 record, it was a 38-21 loss to Winston Academy of Louisville which brought an end to the season for IA Head Coach Allen Hill’s squad.
Finding scoring difficult in the first half of play, the Lady Colonels found themselves facing a 28-6 halftime deficit.
Despite outscoring the Louisville squad 15-10 over the course of the balance of the game, the first half point spread was too large to overcome.
Leading the scoring for IA in this final game of the season was Lizzy Smith, who posted seven points on the scoreboard.
Meanwhile, more satisfying success was had last week by the IA Lady Colonels basketball team.
On the way to earning their No. 3 seed in this week’s North State Tournament, the IA squad turned in a Saturday night 57-49 District 1AAA Tournament victory over Lee Academy of Clarksdale.
While playing as the host of this tournament, in their win over Lee Academy the Lady Colonels were required to overcome a 30-28 halftime deficit to claim the game.
While narrowly outscoring their competition by a 13-12 margin in the third quarter, the Lady Colonels used a 16-7 scoring run in the fourth period to take the game to its final eight point margin of victory.

Also reaching double digit scoring was Mattie Beth Williamson with a 16 point performance.
In their loss to North Delta School, the Lady Colonels would fall prey to a 16-9 fourth quarter scoring advantage which the Lady Wave put together to put the game out of reach.
Although only down by a 25-23 margin at halftime, the IA squad battled back to knot the score at 39 points apiece after three periods of play.
