The close of the 2019-20 regular basketball season is drawing ever closer.
To help reach that rapidly approaching conclusion, a rash of games is scheduled to be played this next week by the Indianola Academy basketball teams.
Beginning tonight, the first of four 6 p.m. contests will be played by the 8-11, 2-3 Lady Colonels at Central Holmes Christian School in Lexington.
Following immediately thereafter, the 0-14, 0-5 Colonels will take the court in search of their first victory of the season.
Upcoming games will continue to follow in rapid succession as Friday will bring Carroll Academy to the IA gym.
Next Monday will then find the IA squads playing their final home date of the season when Manchester Academy of Yazoo City visits for a non-district match-up.
This cluster of games will ultimately conclude next Tuesday with a trip to West Point where the IA teams will take on Oak Hill Academy in their regular season District 2-3A finale.
The final regular season game is scheduled for February 3 at Canton Academy; a game which will be followed two days later by the District 2-3A Tournament to be hosted by Carroll Academy.
In their only action this past week, last Friday a visit to Carroll Academy netted both IA squads a district loss.
While the Lady Colonels suffered a 34-28 loss to the Lady Rebels, the Colonels dropped a 69-26 decision to the home-standing Carroll Academy squad. Leading the Lady Colonels scoring in this contest was Mattie Beth Williamson with 10 points while the IA boys’ offensive efforts were led by Ashton Powell and Joel Radner; both of whom posted seven points apiece onto the scoreboard.
