There was a win-or-go-home scenario facing the Indianola Academy Colonels basketball team Wednesday night at Leake Academy in Madden.
Opening their play in the State AAA Tournament against Hillcrest Christian School of Jackson, the Colonels took a 14-11 record into this contest with the Cougars.
Although the results of this game were unavailable at press-time, an IA victory would send the Colonels back to Leake Academy for a Friday match-up against the host Rebels.
This game’s formidable task will tip-off at 7:15 p.m.
An IA victory over Hillcrest Christian School will also, at the least, assure the Colonels of a berth in Saturday’s 6 p.m. consolation game.
A victory in that consolation game, or a berth in Saturday’s 7:15 p.m. championship contest, will then earn IA Head Coach Allen Hill’s squad a berth in the Overall State Tournament.
That particular tournament is scheduled to begin February 25 at Mississippi College in Clinton.
The Colonels reached this week’s play after last week’s North AAA Tournament garnered a number four seed position.
Following a tournament opening win over Winston Academy of Louisville, the Colonels fell to Leake Academy (70-46) and Canton Academy (53-46) on successive nights.
While Stefon Smith’s 11 points led IA in its loss, Randy Kimble tallied 19 points to go along with Smith’s 16 points versus Canton Academy.
