For the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels, a major step toward claiming another state crown will occur today at 2 p.m. on their own field.
In a repeat of last season’s state semi-final game, the 6-3-2 Lady Colonels will take on Manchester Academy of Yazoo City; a match which promises to be another exciting event between these two talented squads.
In their only match played against each other on August 4, the Lady Colonels and the Lady Mavericks battled to a 1-1 tie.
While IA received an opening round playoff bye Tuesday due to Greenville St. Joseph’s COVID shutdown, the Lady Mavericks claimed their opening round match with a 6-1 victory over Lee Academy of Clarksdale.
Manchester Academy comes into this game as the number two team from the south division, finishing just behind Laurel Christian School.
Last season’s state runner up to IA, Laurel Christian School defeated Columbus Christian School by a 4-0 margin Tuesday evening.
Moving on to today’s semi-final match, Laurel Christian School will take on Kirk Academy of Grenada, a 3-1 winner over Discovery Christian School of Florence.
With a possible IA versus Laurel Christian School rematch on the horizon, this Saturday’s Division III title match will occur at 4 p.m. at Madison-Ridgeland Academy.
In the 2019 championship game, the Lady Colonels defeated Laurel Christian School by a 1-0 margin.
