A split-decision night of basketball at Tunica Academy was recently had by the Indianola Academy roundball squads.
While the now 2-2 Lady Colonels earned a 37-34 victory over the host Tunica Academy varsity squad, the 1-2 Colonels dropped a hard-fought 54-45 decision to a talented team of Blue Devils.
Moving on, the post-Thanksgiving schedule for the IA squads has them traveling Monday to Washington School in Greenville.
Next Tuesday continues non-district play when North Delta School of Batesville visits the IA gym.
Both nights’ play is set to begin with the girls’ game tipping off at 6 p.m. and boys’ action to commence immediately thereafter.
In the Lady Colonels’ road victory over Tunica Academy last Thursday, a strong 17-4 second period enabled the IA squad to take a 22-11 lead to the dressing room at halftime.
This large lead proved to be the key to claiming the game.
Although the Lady Blue Devils would outscore IA 23-15 in the second half of play, the Lady Colonels held on to record their three point victory.
Leading the scoring for IA this night with 13 points was Temple Williamson.
However, double digit status was also reached in the rebounding category by Emma Kate MacLeod and Mattie Beth Williamson.
While MacLeod was strong in the paint by pulling down 16 rebounds, Mattie Beth Williamson added nine points to the 11 errant shots the senior grabbed.
In the boys’ game, the Colonels suffered their nine point loss despite receiving 25 points from C. J. Brown.
