The future of the Indianola Academy Colonels basketball season will be put on the line at 7:45 tonight.
With this trip to Central Holmes Christian School in Lexington, the 1-21 Colonels will open their North 3A State Tournament play against Marshall Academy of Holly Springs.
The Patriots of Marshall Academy are entering this game as the District 1-3A top-seeded team. Meanwhile, the No. 4 seeded Colonels from District 2-3A are traveling in hopes of recording a rewarding upset.
The payoff of an IA victory will be to advance into Friday’s 6:30 p.m. semifinal clash against Oak Hill Academy of West Point.
A victory Thursday night would also ensure the Colonels a berth in next week’s State 3A Tournament hosted by Canton Academy.
The championship game of the current North State 3A Tournament is slated to tip-off at 5:15 p.m. Saturday while the consolation game owns a 4 p.m. start time that same day.
In their play during last week’s District 2-3A Tournament at Carroll Academy, the Colonels dropped their two final games of the event after opening with their upset win over Central Holmes Christian School.
Last week’s tournament action netted a 70-35 loss to Oak Hill Academy. The Colonels would then drop a 65-35 consolation game decision to Winona Christian School last Friday evening. Against Oak Hill Academy, sophomore Cole Ferrell scored a dozen points to lead IA’s offensive efforts.
One day later, it was Ashton Powell’s eight point performance which paced the Colonels scoring in their loss to Winona Christian School.
