In dramatic fashion and after 10 days without playing a softball game due to the weather, the now 9-3, 1-0 Indianola Academy Lady Colonels used an extra inning game Tuesday night to open their return to action.
With Mary Linton Davis drilling a bases-loaded, walk-off single to the right center field gap in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lady Colonels handed visiting Kirk Academy of Grenada a 4-3 District 1AAA loss.
Coming into the inning with the score knotted at three runs apiece, Davis’ heroics were made possible after the bases were filled after walks to Anna Berry Stevens and Ella Servadio was followed by a bunt single from Jill Roberts.
Roberts would also ultimately pick up the win in the pitcher’s circle after coming in relief of Davis.
Also contributing two clutch hits and three RBI’s at the plate to the IA winning cause was Presley Jackson.
There is additional opportunity for District 1AAA softball play in the near immediate future as next Monday is scheduled for the Lady Colonels play host to North Delta School of Batesville.
This will be followed on Tuesday with another district clash when IA Head Coach Patrick Davis’ squad travels to Clarksdale to take on Lee Academy. Both games are scheduled to have their first pitch thrown at 6 p.m.
