With the way William Barrier has transitioned into Indianola Academy’s place-kicker, one would never know this is his first year in holding down the position.
Now six games into the 2017 season, Barrier’s left foot has been deadly accurate as he has drilled 27 of 29 PAT kicks thus far while also adding a 37 yard field goal in his first field goal attempt of the season. That kick against North Delta School was not only true, but traveled far more than needed to clear the uprights.
Barrier has taken over the role as kicker for the Colonels after Will Lang’s graduation departure last season.
Lang has since taken his kicking talents to Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville.
Barrier is currently a three year starter at safety for IA in football as well as soccer where he holds down a forward position.
The senior credits his early years of playing travel soccer with helping develop his strong kicking ability, which has proven to be a huge asset to the Colonels.
As for his own future, Barrier noted that if there was some interest in his own kicking abilities at the collegiate level, he definitely would have to consider it.
But for now, his plans are centered on being a student at Ole Miss where he plans to major in Business with hopes of entering their School of Manufacturing.
