For softball fans, it does not get much better than this.
For there will be a dozen high school fastpitch softball teams and their fans descending on Indianola this Saturday as competition occurs in a near daylong tournament hosted by Indianola Academy.
With this huge tournament to be played at Chism Park, the opening games begin at 9 a.m. and softball action will progress through the day until the expected 5:45 p.m. championship game.
Along with the Lady Colonels of IA, other schools being represented in this tournament are Briarfield Academy of Lake Providence, La., Central Holmes Christian School of Lexington, Deer Creek School of Arcola, Kirk Academy of Grenada, Lee Academy of Clarksdale, Marshall Academy of Holly Springs, North Delta School of Batesville, Pillow Academy of Greenwood, Sharkey-Issaquena Academy of Rolling Fork, Washington School of Greenville, and Winona Christian School.
Last year’s tournament was very successful and attracted a huge crowd of fans as well as several college coaches scouting the talent on the fields.
As for the local Lady Colonels, their opening game of pool play occurs at 9 a.m. versus Pillow Academy. Their second effort of the day will begin at 10:25 a.m. against Sharkey-Issaquena Academy.
