The Division III State Soccer Playoffs have begun and the District 1 champion Indianola Academy Lady Colonels are on the hunt for another state championship.
Following Tuesday’s 5-2 opening game victory over visiting Kirk Academy of Grenada, action continues today when the 10-3 Lady Colonels host Starkville Academy at 3 p.m.
Starkville Academy, the District 2 champion, earned their berth in today’s game by defeating Bayou Academy of Cleveland by a 1-0 score Tuesday evening.
Should the Lady Colonels defeat Starkville Academy today, they will again play on their own field next Monday for the Division III state crown against the south champion. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Lady Colonels earned their home field advantage by way of capturing their recent District 1 Championship, moving Head Coach Ron Schlatter’s total number of district championships to a dozen; a number which also includes two state championships.
In the Lady Colonels recent win over Kirk Academy, scoring was received from four players and were led by Anna Berry Stevens’ pair of goals.
Also ramming one goal apiece into the net for IA was Avery Daniels, Mary Linton Davis, and Lydia Williamson.
