The 2019-20 basketball season came to an end Monday night for the Gentry High Lady Rams.
As a result of their 36-24 first round 4A state playoff loss to Tishomingo County High in Iuka, the Lady Rams closed out their season with a 16-14 record.
In this road trip to the far Northeast corner of Mississippi, the Gentry squad fell prey to an extremely cold night of shooting; an experience which left the Lady Rams far short of their normal 44.9 points per game average they had earned up until this point.
Defensively, the Lady Rams did their job as they held the Lady Braves well below the 59.3 points per game the squad from Iuka was accustomed to scoring. Those 36 points scored on the Gentry High defense also represented the lowest point total the Tishomingo County squad has posted in any of their 30 games played this season.
Leading the scoring for the Lady Rams in the season’s final game was freshman Taniyah Williams with seven points. Following close behind was senior Shacori Dawson with a six point night of play.
Meanwhile, as a result of their victory over the Lady Rams, the 23-7 Lady Braves from Iuka will move on to this Friday’s round two state playoff clash with Choctaw Central High of Philadelphia.
The Lady Rams are losing three seniors to graduation this season. This trio which wore their Gentry High uniform for the final time Tuesday night includes Shacori Dawson, Jaidra Green, and Makyla Henderson.
