Hoping to earn additional basketball victories to their record, the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels begin with a challenging game tonight on their home court.
With Starkville Academy visiting for a 6 p.m. non-district game, the 9-11, 1-5 Lady Colonels will then close out the District 1AAA portion of the regular season next Tuesday with a trip to Kirk Academy in Grenada.
A final home-court regular season game will then be played next Tuesday when Greenville Christian School visits. Both of next week’s contests are scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m.
In their most recent play Tuesday night versus visiting district foe Bayou Academy of Cleveland, the Lady Colonels suffered a hard-fought 41-40 loss.
Leading the scoring for IA in this game was Lizzy Smith with 13 points while Anna Berry Stevens followed close behind with a 10 point game.
Other action this past Thursday saw the Lady Colonels earn a 48-45 district win over Lee Academy in Clarksdale.
Overcoming a 28-22 first half deficit, the IA girls rallied back in the second half to outscore the Fillies 26-17 and claim their three point win.
While Stevens poured 22 points through the basket, Mallory Price also reached double figure status with her 13 points scored.
One night later, the Lady Colonels dropped a 66-30 decision to powerful Pillow Academy in Greenwood despite Berry’s 20 point scoring effort.
