It was a match eerily reminiscent of last season’s North State soccer title clash.
In another physical performance played Tuesday and one which was dominated by defense, the visiting Indianola Academy Lady Colonels and the Manchester Academy Lady Mavericks of Yazoo City slugged it out for 80 minutes.
When all was said and done, however, the two squads were left to walk away with a 1-1 deadlock.
All the scoring in this match occurred in the first half of play with the Lady Mavericks scoring on an inadvertent goal by the Lady Colonels.
However, the now 0-0-1 Lady Colonels answered moments later when Emma Kate MacLeod sent a corner kick arcing toward the goal.
It would be Mattie Beth Williamson who was there to nudge the ball into the net from near the far side of the goal.
This 1-1 score would then stand throughout the second half of play.
With this first complete game under their belt, the Lady Colonels will travel today to Washington School in Greenville to take on a strong Lady Generals squad. Starting time for this match is 3 p.m.
This trip to Washington School precedes the first Division III North match of the season as next Wednesday brings Marshall Academy of Holly Springs to the IA campus. This first of three consecutive home field matches next up on the IA schedule is also set to begin at 3 p.m.
The Lady Colonels’ home opener was started last Friday against Bayou, but it was called due to lightning right before the first half ended.
