The North Sunflower Academy Rebels hardwood teams will be on Thanksgiving break and don’t have game action until Monday December 2nd. They’ll travel to Arkansas to take on Lee Academy with action beginning at 4:00 p.m.
This past week the Rebels traveled to Oxford where the JV boys picked up a 47-25 win over Regents Academy. Brandon Daniels led the way with 31 points for the Rebels. The varsity Rebels lost to the Lions, 71-47.
On the girls’ side of the ledger, the JV lost the conference matchup in overtime, 29-26. Sophomore Rihanna Love led the Rebels with 16 points. The varsity girls lost 53-18 but Head Coach Jimmy McGregor is seeing improvement despite what the scoreboard says.
“It was conference play and we went up and then they tied it up to go into overtime. We played hard and missed some layups,” he said. “We’ve got a little momentum started going into the next part of the season. The Regents high school girls were pretty good and have girls that play AAU ball. But the kids played hard and that’s what you do with inexperienced players, you try to improve.”
Samantha Barham led the way with 12 points while Love added four and Gracie Barrett had two. The Rebels are looking ahead to December.
“We play Lee (Arkansas) when we get back and then we play Winona on Thursday at home,” Coach McGregor said.
