A tough season of rebuilding and paving a new road for North Sunflower basketball ended in the playoffs. The NSA Rebel Girls Varsity team lost in the first round to the number one seeded Briarcrest Academy, 56-14, according to Head Coach Jimmy McGregor.
“They (Briarfield) were pretty good and played really well,” Coach McGregor said. “We had Sam Barham scored five, Jenny Hewitt scored three and then Rihanna Love scored six. That closed out our season.”
Making it to the North Half playoffs was a tremendous success for a team that saw minimal wins during the regular season.
“They played real hard and didn’t quit. There was a lot of pressure by Briarfield. We feel like we could have scored another 10-20 points but missed too many shots,” he said. “I’m proud of their effort. I’m pleased with their effort.”
The team loses two seniors from this year’s team but looks to bring back three starters but still will be a young team.
“We’ll try to rebuild and get ready for next season,” he said. “There are some camps this summer and we’ll practice and drill.”
