Remaining in the hunt for their first win of the season, the 0-2 North Sunflower Academy Rebels will make the short trip to Marks this Friday for a match-up with the Delta Academy Raiders.
In a 7 p.m. game, the Rebels will attempt to reverse their current skid after dropping last Friday’s 38-8 road decision to now 2-0 Manchester Academy in Yazoo City.
The Mavericks are currently ranked as the No. 2 team in the MAIS Eight Man football classification.
“It was a long night but I was pleased with how the kids improved in the second half of the game. They started making tackles and playing the game the right way”, said NSA Head Coach Todd Kitchings.
Meanwhile, the Raiders of Delta Academy will bring a 1-1 record into this Friday’s contest after blanking Hebron Christian School of Pheba by a 34-0 margin last Friday night.
Delta Academy’s recent win took them back into the win column after they opened their 2018 campaign with a loss two weeks ago. That night’s play saw Tallulah (LA) Academy cross over the Mississippi River and hand the Raiders a 41-20 loss on their own field.
Last season, the Raiders completed their season with a 5-6 record, a mark which included a 29-24 victory over NSA; a decision which snapped a three game win streak the Rebels were enjoying over the team from Marks.
Historically since 2004, the Raiders own an 8-4 series advantage over the Rebels.
In last Friday’s loss to Manchester Academy, the Rebels’ offensive efforts were led by Jacob Gentry, as the sophomore running back earned 75 yards rushing against the Mavericks’ defense.
Also contributing another 30 yards rushing was fullback Zach Ramage while running back Jacob Henley’s eight yard TD run and subsequent two point conversion plunge tallied the Rebels’ points in this game.
Defensively, the Rebels were led by defensive end Chandler Hays’ 10 solo tackle performance.
