An open date at the right time can be a good thing.
Which may be just the opportunity the North Sunflower Academy Rebels football team needs to regroup prior to their next game.
Now owning a 1-3 record following last Friday’s 36-18 road loss to Humphreys Academy in Belzoni, the Rebels next opponent will be a September 25 date with District 1-1A opponent Calhoun Academy of Calhoun City.
Optimistically, the Calhoun Academy team will be the first non-2A opponent the Rebels will face this season.
As for last Friday’s loss in Belzoni, the game featured a high-scoring first half of play followed by a second half which generated zero points by either team.
Spreading the scoring around, the NSA Rebels used three different players to generate their points in this contest.
D.D. Williams would tally the initial NSA points in the first period of the game with a 25-yard run to the end zone.
In the second quarter, the Rebels scored the balance of their 18 points on the night.
Using their passing game, quarterback Jacob Henley and receiver Corey Coleman collaborated on a 32-yard scoring strike to score NSA’s second TD of the evening.
The Rebels’ final touchdown occurred moments later when Nick Billhofer sprinted 14 yards for the score.
Defensively, Williams led the Rebels’ efforts with six tackles.
